Who doesn’t love frozen yogurt? Froyo fans can celebrate the cool treat with lots of sweet deals on National Frozen Yogurt Day, Feb. 6.
Yogurt has been around for thousands of years. However, the sweet treat made its way to the Americas in the early 1900s.
A brilliant entrepreneur decided to freeze yogurt in the 1970s and, thanks to that sweet decision, ice cream no longer dominated the family freezer or dessert shops.
The Difference Between Ice Cream and Frozen Yogurt
What is the difference between frozen yogurt and ice cream? Ice cream must have a minimum of 10% milkfat and, to meet the legal requirement, cream is typically added in the process.
On the other side, there is no minimum fat requirement for frozen yogurt. The sweet stuff is made from cultured milk instead of cream.
Frozen yogurt often has more sugar than ice cream. However, it also typically has fewer calories and a lower fat content.
Neither dessert option would necessarily count as “healthy,” especially since the probiotic benefits of yogurt are lost in the freezing process.

In addition to variety of frozen yogurt, TCBY serves a wide selection of low-fat, nonfat and no-sugar-added options.
