In recent years, prices at the pump have increased substantially. Taxes on gasoline only add insult to injury.

Some states have gas taxes that are relatively low. But in other places, you will have to dig extra deep to pay these fees.

Recently, the Tax Foundation calculated the total gas tax rate in each state. These rates reflect many types of fees, such as:

  • Excise taxes on gas
  • Sales taxes on gas
  • Taxes wholesalers impose
  • Various types of operational taxes

Read on for a look at the states with the highest gasoline taxes in America right now.
