Steer Clear of These 5 Popular Cars

“Just because a car generates a lot of buzz or is a best-seller doesn’t mean it’s a good choice for you,” says Consumer Reports.

They suggest steering clear of these popular models, which either didn’t do well in their road tests or have subpar reliability….

  • Honda Civic: “For years, the Civic has been an iconic small car, but Honda took too many short cuts in its latest redesign. While still one of the more reliable and fuel-efficient in its class, the new Civic suffers from a choppy ride, noisy cabin, vague steering, and mediocre interior.”
  • Jeep Liberty: “You might be drawn to this SUV’s rugged looks. But that style comes with an equally rugged and unrefined driving experience. It earned one of the lowest road-test scores of any vehicle we’ve recently tested.”
  • Toyota Prius C: “This less-expensive Prius is all the buzz. Sure, it gets a stingy 43 MPG overall, but all-around quality is way down.”
  • V6 Ford Edge: “The lines of this crossover SUV are rather stylish, but it suffers from a jittery ride, pronounced road noise, distracting controls, and a much worse than average reliability.”
  • Dodge Grand Caravan: “It may be one of the best-selling minivans on the market, but it’s problematic, suffering from squeaks and rattles, loose interior trim, and power-equipment and sliding-door troubles.”
