A lot of people do their shopping at Costco — the beloved warehouse club has nearly 100 million members, even though it’s possible to shop there without a membership.

Every member — and anybody considering a Costco membership — should know about the Costco Anywhere Visa card.

Get big cash back at Costco — and beyond

The obvious draw of the Costco Anywhere Visa card is the 2% cash back you’ll get on all purchases in Costco stores and at Costco.com.

But that’s not the only place you’ll get cash back. It’s not even the biggest.

You’ll also score 4% cash-back rewards on up to $7,000 spent on eligible gas per year. (Gas from other warehouse clubs, supermarkets, and convenience stores is not eligible.) After that, the rate drops to 1%.

The card also offers 3% cash back on restaurants — including cafes, bars, lounges and fast-food restaurants — and eligible travel. Airfare, hotels, car rentals, cruises and Costco Travel bookings count.

You won’t go empty-handed shopping anywhere, in fact, as you earn 1% cash back rewards on any purchases not eligible for the above.

What else you should know

There is no annual fee associated with the card, although it does require a paid Costco membership. You can also use the card as your member ID.

Rewards are distributed annually with your February billing statement as a reward certificate that can be used in-store or redeemed for cash.

Many cards charge fees for foreign transactions, but the Costco Anywhere Visa lives up to its name: You can use it anywhere without any foreign transaction fee.

Ultimately, this card appeals most to people who spend a lot of money on food, travel and at Costco. If that’s not you, there are plenty of other cash-back cards that are worth a look.
