Oscar Mayer Wienermobiles are set for a historic race day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

While 33 IndyCar drivers battle for racing immortality at the Indianapolis 500 this weekend, a different kind of race is set to make history at the famed oval track.

For the first time in over a decade, all six of Oscar Mayer’s iconic Wienermobiles will gather in one location to compete in the inaugural “Wienie 500” on Friday, May 23, according to Car and Driver.

These hot dog-shaped vehicles will take to the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway as part of a new partnership that establishes Oscar Mayer as the “Official Hot Dog” of the Indy 500. This unprecedented gathering brings together the beloved promotional fleet, which normally travels separately across the country for marketing events.

Regional hot dogs race for glory

Each Wienermobile will sport a distinctive racing livery representing regional hot dog styles from across America:

  • The Midwest: Chi Dog
  • The East: New York Dog
  • The Southeast: Slaw Dog
  • The South: Chili Dog
  • The Northwest: Seattle Dog
  • The Southwest: Sonoran Dog

Fans can cheer for their favorite regional creation as these vehicles compete on the same track that has hosted racing legends for generations.

Hot dog-themed racing traditions

Oscar Mayer has fully embraced racing culture with some delicious twists. Drivers will don custom racing suits during the competition, and the post-race celebration will feature a trophy presentation in the “Wiener’s Circle.”

Instead of the traditional champagne spray or the Indy 500’s milk-drinking ritual, the winner will receive a hot dog and enjoy a “condiment spray” — a playful nod to racing victory celebrations.

How to watch and participate

Hot dog and racing enthusiasts can catch all the action streaming live on Friday, May 23, at 2 p.m. ET through the Fox Sports app and @INDYCARonFOX social media accounts. As part of the Carb Day festivities leading up to the Indianapolis 500, Oscar Mayer is debuting the whimsical “Wienie 500,” where its six iconic Wienermobiles will race for the first time ever at the legendary track — a moment covered in detail by WRTV Indianapolis.

Fans can enter a free-to-play contest through DraftKings by answering race-related questions, putting them in contention for a portion of a $10,000 prize pool — a whimsical way to turn hot dog fandom into a potential financial win.

As reported by AP News, the Wienie 500 celebrates Oscar Mayer’s official sponsorship of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and brings all six regionally themed Wienermobiles together for the first time in over a decade.

This playful event serves as an appetizer to Sunday’s high-speed IndyCar main event, where more than 330,000 spectators are expected to devour nearly 30,000 hot dogs during America’s largest single-day sporting event.
