The Wall Street Journal reports…
“Record high gas prices have made this the most expensive year yet for motorists,” said AAA spokesman Avery Ash. “Factors as volatile as major hurricanes, refinery outages and tension in the Middle East resulted in significant frustration for people filling up their cars.”
While most people didn’t see the horrible $4-plus prices we had in the summer of 2008, the national average last year was $3.60. Last year it was $3.51 for the year. (In 2008, it was $3.25.)
The states with the cheapest gas, on average? Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, and South Carolina were all at or under $3.40 for the year.
