More than one-third of Americans say President Donald Trump is influencing how and where they decide to open their pocketbook.
According to CNBC’s recent All-America Economic Survey, 37 percent of Americans report Trump’s election has impacted their spending decisions. Of those influenced by Trump, 15 percent say they’ve spent money in his favor, while 21 percent report spending money in opposition to the president.
Many Trump opponents support the grassroots #GrabYourWallet campaign, which aims to boycott companies that sell or promote Trump products or brands.
There are more than 50 companies on the boycott list, according to NPR. They include big names like Amazon, Walmart, MillerCoors and L.L. Bean. GrabYourWallet founder Shannon Coulter tells NPR that the boycott movement helps Americans feel like they have a voice when choosing how to spend their hard-earned cash.
“We may have lost at the ballot box, but we can vote at the cash register every day. I’m going to continue to reach out to these companies to let them know I’m not doing business with them until they sever their relationship with the Trump family.”
Twenty-six percent of those who participated in the CNBC poll say they’ve made a political or charitable contribution based on Trump, CNBC reports, noting that “the vast majority” of those contributions are in opposition to the president.
Meanwhile, some Trump supporters boycotted Nordstrom after the retailer opted to pull Ivanka Trump’s products from its stores earlier this year. Nordstrom’s move prompted an angry tirade from Trump on Twitter.
Trump’s influence on Americans’ financial decisions doesn’t end with Trump-branded products. According to Money:
The American Civil Liberties Union received a record number of donations immediately after the organization sued the Trump administration over the president’s original executive order on immigration.
