Organizing can be tedious enough as it is — even worse if your hard work is jolted around by everyday use. A beautifully organized drawer becomes quite less beautiful if the boxes inside slip and slide.

Samantha Pregenzer of SO Home is a certified professional organizer, and she has the answer to this common problem.

In a recent blog post, Pregenzer explains her “magic trick” is QuakeHold! Museum Putty. The nontoxic putty comes as a sheet, and you can pull off bits of it as needed to secure objects.

Pregenzer uses bits of the putty to keep drawer organizers, such as boxes for flatware and cooking utensils, in place. She says she’s used it in hundreds of kitchens, and when she revisits past clients, their drawer boxes always remain adhered, right where she placed them.

Her blog also provides a video demonstration of how much putty she uses and how she applies it.

The putty also can be used to keep delicate decor in place. The manufacturer, Ready America, says it’s designed to secure breakables during earthquakes and from “kids and other shakers in your home.” In other words, it’s helpful to any cat owner hoping their feline doesn’t knock down a favorite vase or other fragile item.

One sheet of putty is enough to hold up to 40 items, Ready America says, and it is even usable on wood. It’s also reusable, won’t damage furniture and comes off clean.

QuakeHold! Museum Putty is sold on Amazon and at home improvement stores.
