Sales numbers increased for several SUV models including the Telluride, Sportage and Sorento. The Kia Carnival van also had a record sales month in May.
One Kia SUV leads the brand in sales so far in 2026, and it isn’t the popular Telluride midsize SUV. Here’s what you need to know about the most popular SUV from Kia in 2026 so far.
What Is the Most Popular Kia SUV in 2026 So Far?
The most popular Kia SUV of 2026 so far is the 2026 Kia Sportage, the brand’s compact family SUV model. Kia sold a whopping 18,405 Sportage models in May, amounting to 78,912 annual sales so far.
The Sportage is outselling popular models like the Kia K4 and Kia Telluride to earn the top sales position for the South Korean brand.
Kia Sportage sales increased by 1,342 units year-over-year. The small SUV received a mid-cycle refresh for 2026, making it more appealing because of updates.
How Much Is a 2026 Kia Sportage?
The 2026 Kia Sportage starts at $28,790. It comes in six internal combustion engine trims ranging from $28,790 to $39,690 before taxes and additional fees.

2026 Kia Sportage Specs and Features
The 2026 Kia Sportage uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine to produce 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. It achieves 25 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.
Kia’s small SUV comes standard with 12.3-inch dual panoramic displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes automatic emergency braking technology with pedestrian, cyclist and junction turning detection.
The 2026 Sportage features standard front and rear parking sensors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and smart cruise control with stop and go. Upper trims like the EX ($30,590) come with a wireless phone charger, heated side view mirrors, and blind-spot detection technology. Upgrading to the EX trim grants drivers a long list of features that are scarcely seen in such an affordable SUV.
Should You Get a 2026 Kia Sportage?
If you’re looking for a value-oriented new small SUV for 2026, the Sportage is a clear standout in its segment. It comes standard with plenty of great comfort and tech features often reserved for upper trims.
The Sportage’s specs may be average, but its affordability, massive displays, and luxury-adjacent upgrades make it worth considering over top rivals like the Honda CR-V and Nissan Rogue.
The average new vehicle price is nearly $50K, so an SUV that prioritizes value over performance is an easy choice for thousands of American drivers shopping for their next vehicle in 2026.
