Yahoo has an interesting story about a parent trying to prevent smartphone addiction and abuse…

“Merry Christmas! You are now the proud owner of an iPhone. Hot Damn! You are a good & responsible 13 year old boy and you deserve this gift,” the agreement begins. “But with the acceptance of this present comes rules and regulations.”

18 of them, in fact. They range from “always take mom and dad’s calls” to “no porn” and require him to relinquish the phone at night. If it breaks, he has to pay to fix or replace it. Those are the more sensible ones.

Then there are conditions where you can see the intent, but are funny to imagine a teen following: Download music your peers don’t. Leave the phone at home on purpose sometimes. Don’t take too many photos. “Wonder without googling.” How many of these things would you do, or tell your kid to?
