This is a tip that your average carpenter will not need, but for most of us DIY home improvement enthusiasts, it can be useful every time there is a picture to hang or other reason to drive a nail.

So, you know how — if you only do it now and then — you hit your fingers when hammering? It’s the sort of thing that makes me put off simple tasks, like hanging a picture.

Well, a simple clothespin can be your friend.

Simply hold the nail with the clothespin and position it accordingly. This gets your hands out of the way when you wield the hammer. It’s a little trick that allows us weekend home improvement warriors to come away with successful nailing and thumbs intact.
