Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 540,000 vehicles due to a console issue that could cause potential injury, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The June 9 recall notice published on the NHTSA website says the chrome plating on certain 2018–2024 Ford Expedition vehicles’ center consoles “may bubble and peel, resulting in sharp edges.”

“A customer may come in contact with the sharp edge of peeling chrome while driving, increasing the risk of injury,” the NHTSA recall report says.

Per the report, the “center console chrome trim may have been manufactured by the supplier with parameters that do not meet Ford specifications.” The manufacturers listed in the report are automotive parts suppliers Xin Point and Forvia.

Which Models Are Affected?

According to the report, 548,463 vehicles are included in the recall. The affected models are:

  • 2018–2024 Ford Expedition

The recall number is 26S38.

Have There Been Any Injuries?

The recall report says that on Sept. 24, 2025, Ford identified a trend in the NHTSA’s Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) regarding the bubbling and peeling of chrome trim on the center console of 2019–2020 model-year Ford Expedition vehicles.

“Five of the six reported VOQs allege customer hand injuries from contact with the sharp edge of the peeling chrome trim,” the report reads.

So far, globally, Ford said it is aware of one accident, 65 injuries, and no fires related to this issue.

“Customer reports of hand and finger lacerations associated with this condition include a small number of instances stating that professional medical attention was required,” the report adds.

What Should Owners Do Next?

Owners of the affected vehicles are advised to take their cars to a dealership, where the center console will be inspected and, if necessary, replaced free of charge.

Notification letters about the safety risk will be mailed out on June 29. Additional letters are expected in January 2027 “once the remedy is available,” per the NHTSA.

Ford can be reached at 1-866-436-7332.

Ford Recalls over 16K Vehicles. See Affected Models

USA TODAY Network / Reuters

Ford Motor Company has recalled just over 16,000 Broncos due to a rooftop issue that could lead to cracking, pieces falling off and an increased risk of a crash.

The company has recalled 16,200 Ford Broncos with the model year 2021 and 2022, per a notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website. The sport utility vehicles have 3-door and 5-door molded-in-color hardtops that may crack on the outside roof panel due to environmental exposure or thermal cycling.

“In severe cases, delamination can progress to detachment of sections of the outer skin while driving,” according to the May 12 notice. “Detachment of a section of the hardtop outer layer while driving can create a road hazard for other road users, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Customers whose vehicles have this issue may notice sections of the hardtop outer layer that have split or cracked into separate layers. Vehicle owners may hear more wind noise than usual while driving.

Ford said in mid-May that the company had not received reports of accidents or injuries connected to the recall. The company noted that there have been at least 25 warranty claims, two field reports and two customer complaints in the United States.

Recall Includes Mostly 2021 Ford Broncos

According to the notice, Ford said the recall mostly affects 2021 Bronco models.

The recalled vehicle models are:

  • 2021 Ford Bronco: 15,045 vehicles
  • 2022 Ford Bronco: 1,155 vehicles

The company’s probe into the issue dates back to Jan. 22, 2026, when Ford learned of complaints made to the NHTSA’s Vehicle Owner Questionnaire about the cracking issue among its 2021 to 2023 Bronco 3-door and 5-door molded-in-color hardtops.

Ford conducted vehicle testing on Feb. 17 and found that when a large part of the panel splits into separate layers, cracking occurred during thermal cycling, or alternating between high and low temperatures.

The company also said in the notice that the rooftops may crack on the outside roof panel due to “environmental exposure.”

In late March, Ford conducted a customer clinic to inspect hardtops on 2021 to 2024 Bronco vehicles. On April 7, Ford completed further testing and found that the Bronco 3-door hardtops made before December 2021 may lead to so much splitting or cracking that parts of the outer skin can come off, potentially causing crashes.

What’s the Fix?

Customers can take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer for a free inspection and to have their vehicle’s cracked or split hardtop replaced.

“The replacement MIC hardtop will be manufactured using updated manufacturing processes to address previous adhesion concerns,” Ford said.

Ford began notifying dealers about the issue on May 12. The company will begin notifying owners of the issue on May 27 and let customers know about the remedy on Nov. 5.

The NHTSA recall number is 26V299. Ford’s recall number for this issue is 26S32.

Ford Recalls Over 179K Vehicles. See Affected Models

Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 179,000 vehicles due to a defect involving the front seat frame that could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

The recall affects 62,255 2024–2026 Ford Bronco SUVs and 117,443 2024–2026 Ford Ranger pickup trucks, according to an April 28 notice published on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website.

The issue stems from a potentially loose or dislodged seat frame height-adjust pivot bolt in the front seats. If the bolt becomes dislodged, the seat may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, raising the risk of injury, the agency said.

What Vehicles Are Being Recalled?

According to the notice, 179,698 vehicles are impacted, including:

  • 2024–2026 Ford Broncos
  • 2024–2026 Ford Rangers

What to Do If You Have a Recalled Vehicle

To address the issue, dealers will inspect the front seat components and replace the pivot links and bolts as necessary, free of charge.

Ford plans to mail interim notification letters to affected owners beginning May 11, informing them of the safety risk. A second round of letters will be sent once a final remedy is available, which is expected in July.

Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. The company’s internal recall number is 26S30.

Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) tied to the recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov starting April 30. Owners can also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information.
