With a median base salary of $116,840, the best job in the United States is not the highest-paying profession on Glassdoor’s annual list of the best jobs in America.
It secured its spot at the top based on its earning potential, the level of demand for workers in the field and career opportunities. Once those three factors are taken into account, one occupation climbed to the top of Glassdoor’s 2016 list of the best jobs: data scientist.
In addition to its impressive six-figure median base salary and a top “career opportunities” rating from employees who work in the field, job-search company Glassdoor says there are currently more than 1,700 job openings in the United States for data scientists.
“This is a job title that’s so hot,” said Glassdoor careers trends analyst Scott Dobroski. “It’s a job title where demand outpaces supply. There’s a ton of upward mobility right now.”
