Diapers and baby bottles and car seats! Oh, my!

If you’re a parent, you know all too well that raising children is not cheap. And parents-to-be find out pretty quickly how expensive their little bundle of joy is going to be when they start pricing baby gear (car seat + crib + diapers and wipes + bottles + clothes + burp rags + blankets + stroller + a seemingly endless list of other “must-have” baby items = $$$$$).

Fortunately, you can shave off some of the expense by taking advantage of sales like Target’s “Little Baby, Great Big Sale” event, which is going on now through Jan. 30.

I browsed Target’s sale for some of the hottest deals on baby gear. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Graco: I’ve purchased a number of Graco items over the years, and I’ve always been pleased with both their quality and price. Target is offering all Graco products for up to 30 percent off. This Graco Pack ‘n Play is a steal at $57.80 (28 percent off). We’ve been using a similar “playard” for nearly six years, and it’s held up great! It’s easy to fold up and pack for travel. This Graco SnugRide infant car seat is currently marked down to $102 (32 percent off). It’s a rear-facing seat — which is what is required for the littlest infants. This one is for babies up to 35 pounds. I used the SnugRide for both of my kids, and I loved it. But if you’re not a fan of the SnugRide seat, try another brand. All car seats are discounted as much as 30 percent during Target’s baby sale.
  • Baby carrier: The Ergo Carrier 360 is a great way to tote around your little one up until age 3. Although the front-pack carrier is not on sale, if you purchase it online — it has a $159.99 price tag – you’ll get a $30 Target gift card.
  • Diapers: Target is offering a $20 gift card with the purchase of three select diaper packs. With a deal like that, you can stock up on diapers and pocket the gift card for your next Target shopping trip.
  • Fisher-Price: You can save up to 20 percent on all Fisher-Price baby items during Target’s baby sale. I don’t think I would have survived my babies’ first six months without the Fisher-Price “Cradle ‘n Swing.” Although it does have a fairly large footprint, it was hands-down my favorite baby item. It swings side-to-side or head-to-toe and also features songs, nature sounds, a mirrored globe and mobile to keep baby occupied. Target is selling this Fisher-Price swing for $97.75, which is a whopping 39 percent off its retail price of $159.99!

If you’re in need of any baby items, Target’s baby sale is definitely worth checking out. But don’t dally. The sale ends Saturday, Jan. 30.
