If you shop regularly on Amazon — and chances are very good that you do — tipping your delivery drivers is a great way to show your appreciation for their hard work.

And right now, those tips can add even more to a driver’s bottom line.

Customers who use Alexa — Amazon’s virtual assistant technology — now have the opportunity to thank drivers for making deliveries. The feature is available to those with an Alexa-enabled device, or the Alexa or Amazon Shopping apps.

According to a Dec. 7 announcement written by Beryl Tomay — vice president of Last Mile Delivery at Amazon — customers who utter the phrase “Alexa, thank my driver” will trigger a process that alerts the driver about their gratitude.

Tomay explains:

“And, in celebration of this new feature, with each thank-you received from customers, drivers will also receive an additional $5, at no cost to the customer. We’ll be doing this for the first 1 million thank-you’s received. And, the five drivers who receive the most customer “thank-you’s” during the promotional period, will also be rewarded with $10,000 and an additional $10,000 to their charity of choice.”
