Jaguar Land Rover Recalls Over 23,000 Vehicles. See Affected Models

Jaguar Land Rover is recalling over 23,000 vehicles because an electronic system error may lead to the loss of drive power and exterior lighting.

The automaker issued a recall for 23,677 vehicles on Sept. 17 because a DC-DC converter may malfunction during high power demand, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall report. A software error can cause the converter to stop functioning, potentially resulting in the loss of drive power and exterior lighting.

Electric vehicles have a large, high-voltage lithium-ion battery that powers the travel motor and a low-voltage lead battery that powers smaller components, such as cameras and lights. The lithium-ion battery is charged at a charging station, while the lead battery is charged with power from the high-voltage battery. A DC-DC converter changes high-voltage direct current into low-voltage direct current, according to Panasonic.

As of Sept. 17, Jaguar Land Rover had received 393 claims and field reports about the issue in the United States, according to the recall report. The company was not aware of any accidents, injuries or fires.

• 2021-2024 Jaguar F-Pace (79 vehicles)
• 2021-2024 Jaguar E-Pace (10 vehicles)
• 2020-2024 Land Rover Discovery Sport (3 vehicles)
• 2021-2024 Land Rover Discovery (552 vehicles)
• 2020-2024 Land Rover Defender (8,100 vehicles)

Jaguar Land Rover estimates that 100% of the outlined vehicles are affected by the issue, according to the recall report.

What Should Owners Do?

Dealerships will update the vehicle software for free, according to the recall report. The update will introduce a new “limp-home” mode, which will provide a warning to the driver if the DC-DC converter goes offline for any reason.
