A popular jarred vegetable brand has recalled some of its products after a social media video appeared to show a dead mouse inside a jar of peppers.
Mezzetta Inc. initiated a voluntary recall of certain jars of peperoncini for possible “pest contamination” on Sept. 26, according to notices from the Food and Drug Administration and the brand.
The company acknowledged the social media post in its announcement, saying it was aware that it appeared to show a “potential pest contaminant.”
“We have contacted the consumer and have moved quickly to investigate the situation and initiate a voluntary recall,” the company said. “We have requested to retrieve and examine the product involved in the original consumer report and are reviewing the relevant production, sanitation and food-safety records as part of our ongoing investigation.”
What the Video Appeared to Show
A video posted Sept. 16 showed a TikTok user warning viewers not to buy the brand, saying, “I have a dead mouse in mine.” The clip showed a 32-ounce jar of Mezzetta peperoncini with what appeared to be the body of a small rodent inside.
Mezzetta said it had received no reports of illness or injury related to the recall.
Which Peppers Were Recalled?
Only one lot of Mezzetta peppers was recalled, according to the company. No other Mezzetta products are affected.

What to Do With Recalled Peppers
Anyone with the recalled peppers should not eat them and should contact the company at [email protected] for assistance.
Mezzetta has contacted distributors and sellers to remove the products from shelves. The company said it will update the FDA recall page if the recall expands.
