Research group Institute for Women’s Policy Research broke down last month’s federal jobs report and found “women gained 43,000 jobs, or 45 percent of the total.” Men gained 53,000 jobs.
That squares up with the number of jobs recovered since the recession started: Women have regained 41 percent (1.1 million), while men have regained 49 percent (2.95 million), according to IWPR’s analysis.
But the unemployment rate dropped faster for women than men last month. From July to August, it fell from 8.1 percent to 7.8 for women, and from 8.4 percent to 8.3 percent for men.
