Looking for a New SUV? These 10 Have the Most Cargo Space

USA TODAY Network / Reuters

If you’re in the market for a new SUV, you probably want as much cargo space as possible.

SUVs have dominated the U.S. auto market for most of the past decade, and even now with elevated car prices they remain popular, with the large and mid-size SUV segments making up more than one third of estimated total U.S. auto sales for the beginning of 2026, according to Cox Automotive.

“Sales of smaller vehicles — particularly compact cars and compact SUVs — have fallen more than the overall industry, reflecting weaker demand from lower-income buyers and the ongoing affordability pressures for mainstream shoppers,” the group said. “Midsize segments, however, are forecast to see sales growth in Q1, driven by new product launches and, in some cases, buyers stepping down from higher price points.”

The average price of a new mid-size SUV was $49,853, up 2.8% year over year, according to Cox. The average compact SUV ran $37,055 (up 2.1%) and the average subcompact was $30,612 (up 2.2%).

With those price realities in mind, here are the 10 SUVs with the most cargo space in 2026, according to Carfax.com.

1. Chevrolet Suburban

Starting price: $63,400 | Cargo space: 144.5 cubic feet

Carfax said “the Chevrolet Suburban stands out with its enormous cargo area, spacious seats, powerful V8 engines, available diesel engine, and straightforward tech features.”

2. GMC Yukon XL

Starting price: $72,200 | Cargo space: 144.5 cubic feet

Carfax said “based on the Chevrolet Tahoe, the GMC Yukon brings extra luxury to the table. Robust engines and advanced towing features make the Yukon an adept hauler while its large cabin and luxurious interior helps it move people in comfort.”

3. Cadillac Escalade ESV

Starting price: $94,100 | Cargo space: 142.2 cubic feet

Carfax said “the Cadillac Escalade is an automotive icon that delivers a flagship experience. Its large size can make it difficult to drive, but the Escalade has cutting-edge tech, gutsy V8 engines, and an enormous cabin.”

4. Chevrolet Tahoe

Starting price: $60,400 | Cargo space: 125.9 cubic feet

Carfax said “the truck-based Chevrolet Tahoe is an adept hauler of people and cargo. Spacious, comfortable, and capable of towing up to 8,400 pounds, the Tahoe is a do-it-all SUV for families.”

5. Cadillac Escalade IQL

Starting price: $130,405 | Cargo space: 125.2 cubic feet

Carfax said “the Cadillac Escalade IQL is a larger version of the Escalade IQ. Thanks to its larger body, the IQL has a cavernous cargo area and a generous amount of passenger space.”

6. Ford Expedition MAX

Starting price: $61,825 | Cargo space: 123.1 cubic feet

Carfax said “the Ford Expedition stands out with a cavernous interior, powerful V6 engines, a high towing capacity, a wide range of trims, and a smooth ride. However, it trails rivals when it comes to total cargo capacity, fuel economy, handling capability, and interior quality.”

7. Lincoln Navigator L

Starting price: $99,995 | Cargo space: 121.6 cubic feet

Carfax said “the Lincoln Navigator is a large luxury SUV with a cabin that features an elegant design and premium materials. A 10-speed automatic transmission is standard, as is 4-wheel drive (4WD).”

8. Jeep Grand Wagoneer L

Starting price: $65,945 | Cargo space: 116.7 cubic feet

Carfax said “the Jeep Wagoneer’s interior delivers elegance and refinement more typical of a luxury vehicle than a mainstream SUV. The design is chic, and high-quality materials are used throughout the huge cabin.”

9. Lucid Gravity

Starting price: $79,900 | Cargo space: 111.9 cubic feet

Carfax said “a few years after the debut of its Air sedan, the EV startup Lucid is launching an SUV. The Gravity is a midsize luxury crossover with a large cargo area and an available third row.”

10. 2026 Rivian R1S

Starting price: $76,900 | Cargo space: 104.7 cubic feet

Carfax said “the Rivian R1S is one of the few 3-row SUVs on sale and has a roomy cargo area, qualities families are sure to appreciate. While it’s a great SUV for families, the R1S also has strong acceleration, great off-roading capability, an upscale cabin, and up to 410 miles of range.”
