Autozone won’t absorb the extra costs

Autozone has been particularly direct about its pricing strategy in response to potential tariffs. During a late 2024 earnings call, CEO Philip Daniele stated plainly: “If we get tariffs, we will pass those tariff costs back to the consumer,” BuzzFeed shared.

This position is especially significant considering that no cars in the United States are made entirely from domestically manufactured parts.

Car repair bills aren’t what they used to be. One auto shop told Consumer Reports their average job rose from $1,600 a decade ago to $4,000 today.

Best Buy warns of “highly likely” price hikes

Best Buy CEO Corie Barry addressed the tariff issue during the company’s Q4 earnings call, emphasizing the global nature of their supply chain.

“The consumer electronics supply chain is highly global, technical, and complex. China and Mexico remain the No.1 and No. 2 sources for products we sell, respectively,” Barry explained, as reported by BuzzFeed.

Despite directly importing only 2-3% of their overall product assortment, Best Buy expects vendors across their entire inventory to pass along tariff costs, making price increases for American consumers “highly likely,” she concluded on the earnings call.

Adidas acknowledges higher costs coming for US customers

Popular footwear and athletic apparel maker Adidas has also indicated that price increases are on the horizon.

In a recent statement reported by BuzzFeed, the company acknowledged, “Higher tariffs will eventually cause higher costs for all our products for the US market.”

However, Adidas noted uncertainty about the final tariff amounts, making it premature to outline specific pricing plans.

Target braces for impact, especially on produce

Retail giant Target is attempting to negotiate with foreign suppliers to minimize tariff impacts but still anticipates price increases in several categories.

Target CEO Brian Cornell told CNBC that produce items like strawberries and avocados are likely to see price hikes, according to BuzzFeed.

Cornell also revealed that maintaining certain price points, such as $5 t-shirts, would force the company to raise prices on other products to compensate.

Nintendo already responding to tariff announcements

Gaming giant Nintendo has taken immediate action in response to the tariff announcements made in early April, delaying pre-orders for its next-generation console, the Switch 2.

While the console’s base price remains unchanged for now, the company has announced that accessories like the Joy-Con 2 controllers will cost more directly due to the tariffs.

These price hikes will affect many who enjoy gaming at home.
