Homeowners and renters use household appliances every day in kitchens, laundry rooms and other places around the home. We rarely give them a second thought, until they break down.

Not only do breakdowns create headaches, but they often result in large bills for repair or replacement. One of the best ways to head off such frustration is to buy a product with a strong reputation for durability over a long lifespan.

For more than a quarter-century, the annual American Customer Satisfaction Index has helped consumers discover which companies get the best marks in overall consumer satisfaction.

The latest annual ACSI Household Appliance and Electronics Study — for which more than 16,000 customers were surveyed — found that satisfaction levels are holding their ground for everything from household appliances to TVs and personal computers.

The average ACSI score among all kitchen and laundry appliance manufacturers included in the ranking was 81 out of 100 points. Among vacuum manufacturers, the average score was 79.

A handful of manufacturers get especially high rankings. If you are in the market for a new appliance, here are the companies and brands that earned the highest rankings in the latest survey. All survey scores are out of a possible 100.
