
Traditionally, the concept of success has been closely tied to wealth. And while that is likely still true, it turns out that Americans tend to think of other things when determining how successful they have been.
Recently, financial services company Empower asked 2,203 American adults, age 18 and older, to define success as part of the firm’s latest Secret to Success survey. A mere 27% of respondents cited wealth among the types of success they value most.
Instead, survey respondents were much more likely to cite the following three types of success as being more valuable.
2. Physical well-being (tie)

All the money in the world doesn’t amount to much if you don’t have the good health to enjoy it.

2. Free time (tie)

1. Happiness

Who doesn’t seek to be happy? Plenty of rich and powerful people are miserable, and few would deem such an existence to be a “success.”
Even wealthy people who are content will tell you that money is not the key to their joy, as we reported in “6 Millionaires Who Say Money Doesn’t Buy Happiness.”
