At this week’s Consumer Electronics Show, the big tech event of the year, CNET says Corning will debut Gorilla Glass 3…

By studying glass’ atomic structure and bonding properties, Corning’s team was able to “invent another kind of glass” that makes the substance less brittle, and less prone to scratches, says David Velasquez, Gorilla Glass’ director of marketing and commercial operations.

Gorilla Glass is used in TVs and smartphone touchscreens such as the iPhone’s because it’s much stronger than regular glass even when it’s thin. And this new version is about 50 percent stronger than the version currently used in phones. Pretty soon, your phone will be nearly indestructible – unless you drop it in water.
