New model releases make September, October and Black Friday weekend great times to buy a washer and dryer, according to Clark.com. However, the single best period to make a purchase is April leading into Memorial Day.
Lowe’s and Home Depot tend to offer the most deals, although you can also find great prices at Costco and Best Buy. On the other hand, Sears hasn’t offered great deals in recent years, according to Clark.com.
Clark.com also notes that washers and dryers typically are not offered at bargain prices at other times of the year, so limiting your shopping to the periods listed above might be your best bet.
While Lowe’s and Home Depot are currently running neck and neck in terms of offering great deals — and Best Buy and Costco aren’t far behind — Clark.com notes that since 2017, Lowe’s has tended to offer the most deals.
So, you might want to start your shopping at Lowe’s. But be sure to compare pricing with other retailers. As Clark.com notes:
“You’re likely going to find pretty consistent pricing across the board on many models. However, you may find a great deal on the same model at one store. In the past, I’ve seen price differences of over $100 between stores after deals and discounts. For this reason, it’s important to keep an eye out for deals and take advantage of a great price when you see one.”
Clark.com also urges you to look beyond the purchase price when comparing the cost of buying a washer and dryer. As it notes, you should also weigh delivery fees, installation fees and any other additional costs.
If you purchase a washer and dryer, Clark.com also suggests you continue to track prices of these items into the future. It notes that big-box retailers will often adjust your price and give you a refund if the price drops after your purchase.
Best Buy, Lowe’s and Home Depot also price-match identical items. In addition, Lowe’s and Home Depot offer 10% off competitor prices on similar appliances.
