If you are buying new windows or doors, you might take a tip from fellow homeowners: Shop at Lowe’s.

It earned the top retailer ranking in J.D. Power’s 2023 U.S. Windows and Patio Doors Satisfaction Study, with an overall customer satisfaction score of 873 out of a possible 1,000 points.

The rankings are based on a survey of 2,932 customers who had purchased windows or patio doors within the previous year. With an average customer satisfaction score of 858, the window and door retailers that earned above-average scores are:

  • Lowe’s: 873
  • Renewal by Andersen: 871
  • The Home Depot: 860

One retailer, Window World, earned a below-average customer satisfaction score of 845 out of 1,000.

In a summary of the findings, Christina Cooley, senior director of home intelligence at J.D. Power, says retailers that excel in specific areas of customer service are more likely to impress customers. Actions these retailers can take include:

  • Offering assistance
  • Clearly explaining products and their benefits
  • Having a full grasp of what the customer wants
  • Avoiding trying to pressure the customer
  • Thanking the customer for purchasing their items

J.D. Power also asked survey respondents to name the top window and door manufacturers. The average customer satisfaction score among them is 863. The manufacturers that earned above-average scores are:

  • Renewal by Andersen: 882
  • Milgard: 880
  • American Craftsman: 874
  • Pella: 871
  • Marvin: 869

Another five manufacturers earned below-average scores, with Crestline at the bottom with a customer satisfaction score of 809 out of 1,000.
