Advent calendars usually come with chocolates or small gifts, starting on December 1 and with one for each day of the month up to December 24.
This version gives you something longer-lasting and more useful — better finances by Christmas Day. Each task is quick, practical, and designed to save money or build habits that last.
Print it out, share it with family, or give everyone their own copy. If you like a little friendly pressure, turn it into a competition to see who finishes all 24 tasks first.
1. Check your bank balances
A fast look at your current balances helps you stay grounded before holiday spending ramps up.
2. Do a no-spend day
Skip all non-essential purchases for one day and keep whatever you save from meals, treats, or impulse buys.
3. Set a gift budget
Set a total holiday shopping limit before the first weekend in December to avoid panic purchases later.
4. Unfollow a spending trigger
Remove one influencer whose posts push you to buy things you do not need.
5. Cancel an unused subscription
Review your monthly charges and cancel one service you have not used recently.
6. Check your autopay list
Look at all automatic payments and confirm each one is expected and still worth keeping.
7. Automate a savings transfer
Choose a meaningful amount, even $20, move it to savings, and set the same amount to transfer each month automatically.
Even better, build your emergency savings by opening a better bank account. SoFi offers a combination checking-and-savings account, and if you set up direct deposit, you can earn up to 4.30% on your savings. (Can change without notice.) Get up to a $300 bonus if you direct-deposit $5,000 or more within the first 25 days or up to a $50 bonus if you direct-deposit $1,000 to $5,000.
Earn up to 3.80% Annual Percentage Yield (APY) on SoFi Savings with a 0.70% APY Boost (added to the 3.10% APY as of 5/28/26) for up to 6 months. Open your first SoFi Checking and Savings account between 3/31/26 and 12/31/26, then within 60 days of account opening receive an eligible direct deposit OR $5,000 or more in qualifying deposits. You must maintain eligible direct deposit or $5,000 in qualifying deposits every 31 days to keep the Boost, for up to 6 months. Rates variable, subject to change.

Move at least $50 into your savings account as a Christmas gift to yourself.
A warmer finish to the season
These small steps can make the holidays feel a little lighter. By Christmas Day you should have started some good habits, have fewer unexpected costs, and a bit more breathing room in your finances. Stick with it into the new year so you start January feeling more in control.
