The phrase “beauty is pain” can be left in the past. Tilt is a new makeup brand with products designed to make beauty accessible to everyone.
It’s the first beauty brand and mascara product to receive the Arthritis Foundation’s Ease of Use certification. This means that its product packaging is easy for everyone to open, close, hold and apply — and ideal for people with arthritis or chronic pain.
Tilt’s makeup products — which currently include a tinted and non-tinted lip treatment and a lengthening mascara — use matte, non-slip and specially designed cases that are gentle on joints.
The products also utilize tear-away tabs for easy unboxing, Braille on packaging and ingredients for “extra-extra sensitive skin,” which earned them the National Psoriasis Foundation Seal of Recognition. That means the makeup has been deemed safe and non-irritating for those with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, as well as those with severe sensitive skin or joint mobility limitations.
The mascara has been clinically tested for those with sensitive eyes and those who wear contacts. Even with that, it promises 12 hours of smudge-resistant wear and a formula that promises to nourish the lash line for stronger lashes.
The lipstick treatment comes in five shade options that offer buildable coverage with a formula designed to soothe even severely dried lips. Like the mascara, it also utilizes a special grippy case for easy application.
The lipstick and mascara products are also refillable, so you only have to purchase the cases once.
Aerin Glazer founded Tilt Beauty at age 21, after her psoriatic arthritis diagnosis, which made traditional makeup products difficult to use.
“I experienced chronic painful flare-ups that made using makeup products a constant challenge. I founded Tilt Beauty to create a brand where beauty is accessible to everyone,” Glazer says in a press release.
