Cellphones have come a long way. No longer are they used for texting and calling only. We use them to browse the web, stay up-to-date on social media, leave restaurant reviews, track our steps — and, of course, watch videos. As they compete hard for our business, major cellphone carriers are offering awesome perks that appeal to our evolving cellphone habits, and you can get in on them just by signing up for qualifying cellphone plans.

1. Free Hulu subscription

Savings: $71.88/year

All of Sprint’s unlimited plans come with a free Hulu subscription. It’s the Hulu version that still has commercials, but, hey, it’s free so you can’t really complain. This saves you $5.99/month or $71.88 over an entire year. If you don’t have Hulu, you’re missing out. This streaming service rivals Netflix with amazing original shows like “The Handmaid’s Tale” and documentaries like “Fyre Fraud” and “Free Solo.”

Sprint’s Unlimited Plus and Unlimited Premium plans come with additional perks:

  • Unlimited Plus:
    • TIDAL music, podcast and video streaming service (savings: $119.88/year)
  • Unlimited Premium:
    • Amazon Prime (savings: $119/year)
    • TIDAL (savings: $119.88/year)
    • Lookout Premium mobile security app (savings: $199.88/year)

2. Free Amazon Prime subscription

Savings: $119/year

Both Sprint and Metro by T-Mobile offer a free Amazon Prime subscription with select plans. Metro’s $60 Unlimited plan comes with both an Amazon Prime subscription and Google ONE subscription, and Sprint’s Unlimited Premium plan comes with Prime as well.

Amazon Prime not only gets you free two-day delivery (and free two-hour delivery on select items), but you’ll also have ad-free access to Prime Music, unlimited streaming of Prime Videos, access to e-books from Prime Reading, unlimited listening with Audible Channels and a lot more!

With free Amazon Prime Subscription, you’ll be saving yourself $119/year on membership.

3. Free Netflix

Savings: $107.88/year

If you have two or more lines on T-Mobile’s ONE or ONE Plus plans, you’ll enjoy a free Netflix subscription valued at $8.99/month. Note that you won’t be eligible if you are on T-Mobile’s 55+ plan or are on T-Mobile’s ONE plans at a discounted rate.

4. Free live and on-demand TV

Savings: $180/year

AT&T is the only carrier to offer a free live TV service with their cellphone plans. On both the Unlimited &More and Unlimited &More Premium plans, you’ll enjoy a free AT&T Watch TV subscription valued at $15/month. Watch TV comes with 35+ live TV channels and 15,000 on-demand TV shows and movies.

Also included in AT&T’s Unlimited &More Premium plan is your choice of a premium channel add-on, like HBO, Cinemax, Showtime or Starz. This can save you up to almost an additional $180/year.

5. Google ONE

Savings: $23.88/year

With both of Metro by T-Mobile’s unlimited plans come with a free Google ONE subscription, which gives you more online storage in your Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos. With Google ONE, you’ll get up to 100GB of storage across your Google account, which is a huge upgrade from the 15GB you get with a free Google account.

6. Apple Music

Savings: $119.88/year

If you’re a fan of Verizon’s network, then you’re not left out. Its unlimited plans come with a free Apple Music subscription. You’ll enjoy ad-free access to 50 million songs (which you can listen to both online and offline), music videos, original shows, concerts and exclusive content, as well as access to on-demand radio shows.

Verizon’s Go Unlimited plan only gives you six months of free access, but the carrier’s Beyond Unlimited and Above Unlimited plans include an ongoing Apple Music subscription for free.

Hot spot, international roaming and more

In addition to the perks above, there are a number of other cool benefits to cellphone plans that you need to be aware of, including:

  • Mobile hot spot allowance
  • International roaming benefits
  • HD video streaming
  • Plan usage in Mexico and Canada

When searching for a cellphone plan, it’s important to also look at these additional benefits that carriers offer. No longer is it just about how much talk, text and data you’ll get. These month-to-month perks and savings can make a significant difference in your overall entertainment costs.
