The seemingly double payout is just a result of the Social Security Administration payment calendar.

While recipients typically get their checks on the first of the month, alterations are made when payment day falls on a weekend or holiday, and this month is no exception.

How Many People Receive SSI Benefits in Philadelphia?

According to the SSA, 90,405 people in Philadelphia received SSI benefits, as of June 2026.

Are There Two Social Security Payments in July?

Technically, yes, there will be two Supplemental Security Income payouts during the month, but that’s not extra money.

The SSI Aug. 1 payment will pay out on July 31 because August begins on a weekend, according to the 2026 SSA calendar.

Will There Be Two Social Security Payments Again This Year?

Based on the SSA payment calendar, SSI recipients can expect this calendar quirk to happen at least twice more.

In October, recipients will get their normal payment on the first, as well as November’s payment on Friday, Oct. 30.

And in December, recipients will get their payment on the first as well as their January 2027 payment on Thursday, Dec. 31 since Jan. 1 is a holiday.
