Several Social Security Administration offices are experiencing disruptions and closures, effectively impacting in-person services, according to the agency’s website.
A handful of locations on the agency’s Office Closings and Emergencies webpage are either completely closed to the public or providing service by appointment only due to construction, the inability to permit people to wait outside the office or other reasons.
USA TODAY contacted the Social Security Administration for additional information on April 21, but has not received a response.

To check whether your nearest location is affected, enter your ZIP code in the office locator on the Social Security Administration’s website.
Which SSA Offices Are Impacted?
According to the website, the affected locations are in West Virginia, Texas, Pennsylvania, Northern Mariana Islands, Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan and Montana.
It’s unclear what is causing the individual closures and disruptions.
The agency is advising recipients to use its website to get help. If recipients need assistance and cannot use the website, they’re advised to call the national 800 number of their local Social Security office. Employees can often assist over the phone, saving recipients a trip to the office, according to the website.
Anyone needing in-person help must make an appointment to visit a local office.
