Waiting at the Post Office is one holiday tradition we could all live without. Fortunately, there are things you can do to avoid the hassle of those notoriously slow lines.
USPS Click-N-Ship
This at home, web based service run by the US Postal Service let’s you print mailing labels yourself. That way, all you need to do is drop off your letter or package and be on your way! It does require internet access, a computer and a printer, but if you’re reading this article online, you probably already have all 3. Check out Click-N-Ship
Automated Postal Centers
These are a lot like ATMs, but they let you do anything you can do at the counter (except ship internationally). They’re often located in 24 hour lobby areas of post offices, but aren’t quite ubiquitous yet. So contact your local post office before going to make sure they have one available. Go Somewhere Else
If all you need is stamps, there’s no excuse to wait in line at the Post Office. You can order those suckers online, pick them up at most pharmacies or even purchase directly from some ATMs. The USPS is also beginning a program that will let you order stamps by mail over the phone or internet, but it’s not currently available in all areas. For more information about that, you can pick up a “Stamps by Mail” brochure from the Post Office (without waiting in line).
