What better way to identify the best senior discounts than to ask seniors themselves?

The publication Money recently did just that, asking some of its readers for today’s best senior discounts. The result was a list of 10 discounts available to folks as young as 50.

The following four price breaks are some of the most valuable. Just note that you generally must show proof of age to redeem these discounts.

1. British Airways

The good news is that folks age 50 and older flying out of certain U.S. locations can save $65 on economy round-trip through airfare and $200 on business round-trip through airfare. A “through” flight is defined as one that has one or more intermediate stops.

However, you must be an AARP member to land this deal, and it’s available only for flights booked by Jan. 31, 2019.

2. Kohl’s

Folks age “60 or better” can save 15 percent in Kohl’s department stores on Wednesdays.

This offer cannot be combined with other percentage-off discounts. But it can be combined with dollar-off discounts, such as Kohl’s Cash coupons and Yes2You Rewards. Other exclusions are detailed on Kohl’s website.

3. Marriott

Folks age 62 and older can save 15 percent or more on room rates at some hotels.

This discount is available at Marriott brand hotels worldwide, such as:

  • Marriott Hotels & Resorts
  • Courtyard by Marriott
  • Residence Inn by Marriott
  • Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott
  • TownePlace Suites by Marriott
  • Springhill Suites by Marriott
  • Marriott Vacation Club International

Even better, the discount is available any day of the week, with no limit to the number of nights you book, and can be applied to up to two rooms per stay.

4. Walgreens

Money reports that folks who are 55 or older as well as AARP members can save 20 percent on the first Tuesday of every month.

According to Walgreens’ “Seniors Day” webpage, the drugstore chain offers the 20 percent discount in stores. It offers a 10 percent discount on certain items online.

Also, a Balance Rewards card is required. Balance Rewards is Walgreens’ loyalty program, which you can join for free.
