Loyal Aldi shoppers know it well — the legendary “Aisle of Shame.”
The affectionate nickname is a nod to the delights and temptations this section of the store poses to customers.
Everything from clothing to home decor lines the shelves of the Aldi Finds area (its official moniker), and the selection typically changes every Wednesday.
This week, one item caught my eye for its price and practicality.
The $5.99 Watertight Smartphone Case by Adventuridge brought to mind one unfortunate incident I had while canoeing on a small glacier-fed lake in Washington State. A bit of splashing water (and bad planning on my part) ruined the smartphone in my pocket.
Watertight phone storage is an essential for any day at the beach, hotel pool or other waterborne adventure. This box makes it easy and cheap to protect your family’s tech wonders from water, sand and spilled drinks.
Fun fact: The worldwide average price of a new smartphone was $287 in 2024, according to Stocklytics.
Here’s what I love about this case:
- It’s made of transparent plastic, so you can easily identify whose phone is whose.
- It comes in two sizes: The smaller case measures 7.9 inches long, 4.9 inches wide and 1.1 inch deep. The larger is 8 inches long, 5.6 inches wide and 2.6 inches deep. Regardless of which size you pick, the price is the same.
- The case’s waterproof rating is IPX6, which means testing found it can protect against powerful jets of water coming from any direction, with no water penetrating the case in such a scenario. The box is not meant to be submerged in water, though.
- It’s easy to latch and unlatch, so kids and those with arthritis can manage this case’s simple design on their own.
- It looks good. Hey, looks matter. Cool phone? Get a cool case.
This Region Fishing dry box, similar in size to the smaller Adventuridge option, was selling for $24.99 on Amazon as of this writing. And this larger watertight case by Pelican was selling for $39.95.
If this Aldi Finds bargain has made a splash, act fast. The cases are only scheduled to be available until July 8 — and that assumes they don’t sell out first.
