Happy birthday to the National Park Service! And happy freebie day to you.

The NPS is celebrating its 101st birthday by offering free admission to all parks on Aug. 25. The gratis gift is just one of several days during the year when you can enter the parks for free.

Admission is free for all 400 national park sites on Aug. 25. But if you want to get the most out of this deal, plan on visiting one of the 124 park sites that normally charge an entrance fee. The other parks are free throughout the year.

And if you’re a senior who loves the national parks, don’t delay in getting a $10 lifetime pass. As we recently noted, the price will jump to $80 on Monday, Aug. 28.
