Three weeks of July have come and gone — and for the first time since 2014, there has been no Amazon Prime Day.

The annual July shopping extravaganza — which first was held on July 15, 2015 — fell victim to the coronavirus pandemic this year. However, shed no tears, shoppers: Amazon has announced that Prime Day 2020 will go on sometime later this year.

In a July 21 tweet, the company said:

“We’ll be bringing #PrimeDay savings to members later than usual this year. Safety of our employees, customers, and selling partners remains our #1 priority.”

That guidance is fuzzy at best. But media reports suggest one possible date: The week of Oct. 5.

Numerous outlets have reported this month that Amazon has alerted third-party sellers to hold the week of Oct. 5 as a “placeholder date” for Prime Day promotions and coupons.

Amazon has neither confirmed nor denied those reports.

Prime Day has become one of the biggest shopping events of the year for millions of people. The 2019 version was the largest shopping event in Amazon history, according to the company.

During the two-day event, Amazon sold more than 175 million items, including more than:

  • 100,000 laptops
  • 200,000 televisions
  • 350,000 luxury beauty products
  • 1 million headphones
  • 1 million toys
