Bloomberg has the story of consumers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and California who are mad at the maker of Bud. Lawsuits in Ohio and Colorado are also planned.
The lawsuits say the alcohol content labels are wrong on Bud Ice, Bud Light Platinum, Michelob, King Cobra, Busch Ice, Black Crown, Bud Light Lime, Hurricane High Gravity Lager, Natural Ice and Michelob Ultra. They claim the brewing process involves adding water, which cut 3 to 8 percent of the alcohol content by volume.
How would you even know that? One of the lawyers in the lawsuits says the complaints are based on insider info from former employees who explained the process. They believe it’s a deliberate corporate policy, not an accident.
All three lawsuits are seeking more than $5 million in damages, as well as an apology ad campaign. A company VP says the charges are completely false.
We’re not sure who’s buzzed here, and it’ll probably be a while before we find out.
