Millions of Bissell cleaning machines sold at popular retailers, including Target, Walmart and Amazon, have been recalled after causing over a hundred reported burn injuries.
According to an April 9 warning from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, 1.7 million Bissell-branded steam cleaners have accessories that could detach from the main machine, allowing hot water or steam to escape.
Bissell has received 206 reports of the cleaners’ attachments unexpectedly disconnecting from the machines as of April 9, resulting in 161 burn injuries and at least one second-degree burn.
The steam cleaners and affected attachments were sold in-store at Target, Walmart and other retailers nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com, HSN.com and other websites, from October 2024 to March 2026 for $9 to $55, according to CPSC.

Which Bissell Cleaners Were Recalled?
- Bissell Steam Shot OmniReach steam cleaner with attachments.
- Bissell Omni handheld steam cleaner with attachments.
The attachments sold with these cleaners are the parts that pose a safety risk, according to CPSC. Depending on the model, this may include an accessory nozzle, grout brush, round detail brushes, flat scraping tool, angle concentrator tool, extension hose, fabric steamer and/or steamsqueegee.
The affected units were sold in colors green, gray, white, blue and dark blue with the following model numbers, which can be found on the bottom of the products:

- 4171F
What to Do If You Have a Recalled Bissell Steamer
Consumers who own a recalled Bissell steamer should stop using the accompanying attachments immediately and contact the company to receive free replacements. Affected customers should visit Bissell’s recall page (www.steamshot2026.com) to register their product and submit a replacement application.
Consumers will be asked to upload photos showing the affected accessories disposed of in the trash to complete the process.
