If you have an old electronic device, you can trade it in and receive the trade-in value on a Costco gift card, also known as a Costco Shop Card.

This is possible through Costco’s electronics trade-in program run by Phobio, a trade-in services company.

Device types that are eligible for trade-in — and how much you can get for them — are:

  • Phone — up to $920
  • Laptop — up to $2,550
  • Tablet — up to $500
  • Smartwatch — up to $931
  • Desktop — up to $1,125
  • Media player — up to $5

If you decide to trade in your device, you will print a shipping label or receive a box with prepaid shipping supplies within three to five business days.

You will also receive instructions for erasing the device before you pack it up and drop it off with a courier.

Once the device reaches the inspection facility, it will be wiped of data, and you will receive your payout in the form of a digital or physical Costco Shop Card.

Costco’s electronics trade-in program through Phobio began in 2019 but has not received a lot of publicity. So, if you are a Costco member with an old electronic device, read the program’s terms and conditions and decide whether a trade-in is right for you.

To cash in, go to Costco’s trade-in page and click the “Get Started Now” button. When you do, you will be taken to a website run by trade-in services company Phobio.
