15 States Where Divorce Is Most Common

The national divorce rate has fallen over the past 10 years, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau data.

There were 7.6 new divorces per 1,000 women in 2019, compared with 9.7 per 1,000 in 2009.

That trend also held in most of the states where divorce is most common — though not all of them. In a couple of states, the divorce rate has gone up in recent years.

Following is a look at the states where divorce happens most frequently, ranked based on their divorce rate as of 2019, the latest available.
