Summer travel season is in high gear, with many of us taking a break from work and jetting off to fun new vacation spots.

But some travelers might have sore feet by the time they arrive at their destination. A handful of airports require fliers to take a long journey — step by step — from check-in to boarding, according to the footwear company Kuru.

As part of a recent analysis, Kuru team members measured the walking distance in airports across the U.S.

Here are airports with the longest walks to the gate — and those with the shortest.

1. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport

Nearly 80 million travelers passed through Dallas Fort Worth International — and its five terminals and 171 gates — in 2023, making it the third-busiest airport in the world.

The airport itself is centered between the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth, which co-own the facility. All told, the airport grounds cover an area of 26.9 square miles — an area larger than Manhattan.
