Elon Musk Wants $1 Trillion? Here Are 9 Better Places to Put That Money

Elon Musk recently asked Tesla shareholders to bless a compensation plan that could climb to $1 trillion.

The figure is so large it bends the mind: Earn $100,000 a year and you would need 10 million years to hit that mark.

But nothing exposes the scale like matching it against urgent needs ordinary people face today.

Here are smarter ways $1 trillion could be deployed right now.

1. End world hunger for 16 years

The United Nations pegs a global hunger fix at roughly $60 billion a year. One trillion dollars could bankroll that mission for more than a decade and a half, sparing hundreds of millions from chronic malnutrition.

2. Bring safe water to everyone on Earth

The World Health Organization says universal access to basic safe water requires $114 billion per year. A trillion could fund that project eight times over, helping eradicate deadly waterborne diseases.

3. Erase U.S. medical debt 10 times

Americans have about $100 billion in medical bills in collections. If you’ve got a problem, the sooner you deal with it, the better.

If you have $10,000 or more in debt, National Debt Relief is one of the most respected providers of debt relief in the U.S.

Wiping it out once would be life-changing; doing it every year for a decade would permanently remove one of the nation’s biggest financial stressors.

4. House every homeless American for 30 years

Experts estimate $30 billion a year could provide housing and services for every unhoused person in the United States. A trillion would keep roofs over heads for three full decades.

5. Mail every American a $3,000 check

Divide one trillion by 330 million residents, and every man, woman and child in the country pockets about $3,000 — enough to cover a mortgage payment, wipe out a small credit-card balance or seed an emergency fund.

6. Double NASA’s budget for 18 years

NASA’s current annual funding is about $54 billion. Injecting an extra $54 billion each year for 18 years could speed a moon base, a Mars landing and climate-monitoring satellites — while still leaving billions unspent.

7. Buy every NFL, NBA and MLB team

Forbes values the 92 franchises across football, basketball and baseball at roughly $270 billion.

One trillion would let you purchase the lot and still have more than $700 billion left for stadium upgrades or, well, anything.

8. Build a brand-new interstate highway system

The original 48,000-mile network cost about $129 billion in mid-century dollars — around $550 billion today.

With a trillion dollars you could lay a second coast-to-coast grid and start a third, super-charging commerce and jobs.

9. Fund the National Cancer Institute for 138 years

The NCI’s annual budget sits near $7.2 billion. Drop a trillion into its coffers, and you finance cancer research well into the next century, accelerating breakthroughs that touch nearly every American family.
