Nearly half of Americans with homeowners insurance saw their premium rise during the past year, the highest rate for such hikes in more than 10 years, according to J.D. Power’s latest annual U.S. Home Insurance Study.
Inflation, severe weather and tightening reinsurance markets were among the factors that contributed to premium increases for 47% of customers who carry homeowners insurance, J.D. Power says.
The jump in premium costs is causing many policyholders to look elsewhere for coverage. Among those who plan to switch providers, 43% say rising costs are behind their decision.
In its latest study, J.D. Power used responses from just over 14,500 homeowners and renters to measure customer satisfaction with home insurers based on these factors:
- Product/coverage offerings
- Problem resolution
- Digital channels
- People
- Price for coverage
- Trust
- Ease of doing business
The overall customer satisfaction ranking averaged 642 on a scale of 1,000 points. But some companies did better — or worse — than that number. Here is the best home insurer for customer satisfaction in 2025 — and some of the worst.
Amica

At a score of 705 out of 1,000 points, Amica topped this year’s rankings. The company has a rich history of providing auto insurance and is, in fact, the oldest mutual insurer of automobiles in the United States. But this year’s rankings show that it also has a solid reputation for providing homeowners insurance.
The company says 1 in 3 of its current customers has been with the company for more than 20 years.
Other top-rated insurers

Several other homeowners insurance companies also scored higher than the average of 642 when it comes to customer satisfaction. Here are those insurers, along with their customer satisfaction score:
- Chubb: 677 out of 1,000 points
- Erie Insurance: 676
- Automobile Club of Southern CA (AAA): 660
- State Farm: 657
- The Hartford: 647
- American Family: 643
At 737, USAA actually earned the highest score of any insurer. However, it is excluded from the rankings because it does not meet the study award criteria.
