A clean airport makes travel more pleasant, and three North American airports go above and beyond when it comes to keeping things scrubbed and polished.
The Airports Council International’s latest annual Airport Service Quality Awards honor airports around the world for the best customer experiences. The awards were based on nearly 700,000 surveys of travelers.
One of the awards honors the cleanest airports around the world. Following are the winners in North America, followed by the honorees located on other continents. All rank among the top 5% in the world for cleanliness.
Gerald R. Ford International Airport

Where this airport is located: Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States
International Air Transport Association code for this airport: GRR
In 2009, the Gerald R. Ford International Airport completed a revamp of the terminal and parking areas. Needless to say, the improvements — including a 4,700-space parking garage and garage-to-terminal pedestrian bridges — have created a much better experience for travelers.
Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport

Where this airport is located: Greer, South Carolina, United States
International Air Transport Association code for this airport: GSP
The Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport has been open for business since 1962. It was the first airport to feature lights in the pavement of the runway.
Prior to the construction of GSP, the region was served by two smaller airports, one in Greenville and another in Spartanburg.
Indianapolis International Airport

Where this airport is located: Indianapolis, Indiana, United States
International Air Transport Association code for this airport: IND
At the Indianapolis International Airport, you can get in a little preflight workout. In partnership with the American Heart Association, the airport has created a designated quarter-mile walking path around the Ticketing Hall.
In addition, once you have gone through security, you can walk a half-mile path around either concourse or a 1.1-mile lap around both concourses.
