Trader Joe’s is broadening its footprint across America with new stores scheduled to open soon. If you’ve been stretching your paycheck at the supermarket lately, this expansion could help you save money on your weekly grocery runs.

The cult-favorite grocer just updated its “opening soon” list, revealing new locations from coast to coast. TheStreet reports that official opening dates haven’t been confirmed, but some stores are expected to welcome customers before the end of 2025. The company also opened 34 new locations nationwide in 2024.

Why Trader Joe’s matters for your budget

Trader Joe’s has built its reputation on unique products and consistently competitive prices. With grocery costs still high and many Americans cutting back on dining out, affordable groceries have become more important than ever.

This expansion matters because Trader Joe’s locations are still relatively scarce. In Indianapolis, a mid-sized city with 24 Kroger stores, there are only three Trader Joe’s. That kind of gap means many shoppers have missed out on the store’s signature savings simply due to limited access.

Where are new stores opening?

The beloved grocer is expanding to new neighborhoods across 19 states and Washington, D.C. With California and Texas each adding three new locations, and several other states seeing a two-store boost, the chain is solidifying its coast-to-coast presence.

30 new store locations announced by TheStreet:

  1. Goodyear, Ariz.
  2. Yucaipa, Calif.
  3. La Verne, Calif.
  4. Northridge, Calif.
  5. Westminster, Colo.
  6. Shelton, Conn.
  7. Washington, D.C.
  8. Daytona Beach, Fla.
  9. Peachtree City, Ga.
  10. New Orleans – Mid-City, La.
  11. New Orleans, La.
  12. Newton, Mass.
  13. Boston, Mass.
  14. Columbia, Mo.
  15. Iselin, N.J.
  16. Miller Place, N.Y.
  17. Glenmont, N.Y.
  18. Staten Island, N.Y.

  30. Virginia Beach, Va.

Perhaps one of the most surprising moves is a second Trader Joe’s opening directly across the street from its long-standing Sherman Oaks, California, store.

Dubbed “Sherman Oaks, Too,” this new spot will offer the same quirky charm with an added bonus: more parking. That’s a big deal for fans who love the brand but dread the lot.

Making the most of a Trader Joe’s near you

If a Trader Joe’s is opening in your area, it could be a great opportunity to lower your grocery bills without adding extra hassle. Even shifting a portion of your regular shopping to the new store may lead to noticeable savings, especially if you focus on the products where Trader Joe’s tends to offer the most value.

Smart ways to stretch your grocery budget:

  • Start with pantry staples and frozen foods. These categories often deliver strong value for the price.
  • Prioritize private-label items. Trader Joe’s exclusive products help avoid brand markups.
  • Shop seasonally. Limited-time items such as pumpkin snacks in fall or peppermint treats in winter often provide good value and variety.
  • Stock up on favorites when you can. Some products sell out quickly and may not return for many months.
  • Explore the frozen section. It offers some of the best prices for ready-made meals and ingredients.
  • Track your spending for a month. Comparing receipts can help you see the real impact on your budget. Origin is an all-in-one platform that allows you to track spending and build a custom budget.
  • Use a hybrid approach. Shop at Trader Joe’s for staples and specialty items, and visit other stores for fresh produce or specific brands.

Even if the store is a little farther than your usual stop, the savings could outweigh the extra drive. With grocery prices still elevated, taking advantage of a new Trader Joe’s location could make a real difference in your monthly spending.
