Welcome to our “Work From Home Q&A” series. You ask a question about remote work, and a guest expert provides an answer.

You can learn how to ask a question of your own below.

This week’s question comes from Susan:

“What are some types of work from home jobs that are ideal for retirees? I am looking to bring some income in to help restore my nest egg.”

Working from home in retirement can be an ideal way to bring in much-needed income without sacrificing valuable time and energy on things like commuting to and from an office.

There are some remote jobs that may be a particularly good fit for retirees, depending on your experience and skills.

We often see remote jobs for retirees such as bookkeeper or accountant, writer or editor, online teacher in a huge number of subjects and student levels, transcriber, career coach or resume writer, customer service representative, language tutor, data entry specialist and HR coordinator.

Depending on the qualifications you already bring to the table, you may be able to apply directly for these roles.

Or, do some reskilling or upskilling online to build your qualifications. Think about your previous career experiences and what you’d already be great at.

Or, if you’d like a change of pace, what else can you do with the skills and experience you’ve had? Making a career change in retirement isn’t uncommon. After years, maybe decades, spent doing similar work, many of us reach retirement wanting or needing to work in a different field.
