Your Amazon Prime Membership Can Now Save You Money at the Pump

Amazon Prime members have yet another perk to take advantage of — savings on fuel.

Amazon recently teamed up with BP to offer Prime members a discount of 10 cents per gallon at roughly 19,000 locations across the country, including BP, Amoco and ampm stations.

Members of BP’s loyalty program Earnify save 5 cents per gallon, but with this perk, Prime members can double that amount.

While 10 cents off every gallon might seem like a small win during a single stop, Amazon projects that the average driver could see nearly $70 in annual savings by utilizing this offer consistently.

Using data from the Department of Transportation, Amazon calculated the estimated savings based on a driver using a light-duty economy car that consumes approximately 675 gallons of fuel per year at an average of 21.5 miles per gallon.

So if you use more gas than that per year, your savings could be even larger.

How to claim your discount

If you’re already an Amazon Prime member, you just need to do the following simple steps:

First, link your account to BP’s Earnify loyalty program. Visit Amazon's fuel savings page to activate your account. You’ll also need an account with Earnify, which is BP’s free loyalty program.

Next, find a participating station on the Earnify app

Finally, to take advantage of the discount, enter your phone number at the pump or use the Earnify app.

Amazon notes that there’s no minimum purchase to get the discount and that all fuel grades are included.

For those who have already transitioned to electric vehicles, similar savings are on the horizon. Amazon and BP have announced plans to launch a charging offer for Prime members through the BP Pulse network.

For drivers looking to trim their monthly overhead, taking a few minutes to link these accounts is a simple way to ensure you are getting the most value out of your annual subscription.

The gas-discount program is just one more way that Prime members can save, in addition to free shipping, streaming services, prescription savings and discounts on groceries.
