Friends and family keep asking me where I plan to shop on Black Friday. But the truth is, you can get great deals weeks before the actual day of Black Friday.

This year, for example, major retailers began rolling out their “Black Friday” deals shortly after Halloween. Of course, not all early Black Friday sales offer steals. I’ve passed on plenty of them already because I know I’ll find deeper discounts later in the month.

But you can still get some great deals right now. We’ve found three early Black Friday sales starting this weekend at major retailers that are worth checking out. I know I’ll be shopping some of them.

BJ’s Wholesale Club’s Black Friday Savings Event

This sale is available online and in stores from Friday, Nov. 18, through Monday, Nov. 28.

Dozens of discounts are part of this promotion. You can find them all on BJ’s “Black Friday Savings” page.

Not a BJ’s member? Not a problem — BJ’s is currently offering free 90-day memberships.

Sam’s Club’s Pre-Black Friday Savings

This sale is available online from Saturday, Nov. 19, through Wednesday, Nov. 23. It’s available in stores only on Saturday.

Expect a lot of tech deals with this promotion. Sam’s Club has said of it:

From 4K televisions to smartphones and tablets, members will find incredible savings on electronics, including the latest technology from Samsung.

Target’s 10 Days of Deals

The beloved big-box store chain has brought back this promotion for a second year. This year, it will be available online and in stores from Saturday, Nov. 19, through Monday, Nov. 28.

For each of those 10 days, a different deal will be offered on that one day only. The first deal, available only on Saturday, is 30 percent off in the toy department. (Just use promo code PLAY if you shop online.)

You can scope out the other nine days’ deals on Target’s “Black Friday” page.

If you shop for anything Target sells online, remember that shipping is free — with no minimum purchase requirement — now through the end of the year. Oh, and Target allows you to “stack” promo codes.

As always, do your homework before you buy. This time of year, that simply means taking a few seconds to:

  • Compare prices at other retailers.
  • Glance at the Black Friday ads of the retailers whose early sales you’re interested in. You want to be sure the prices of the items you’re interested in won’t drop on the actual Black Friday.

To maximize your savings, don’t forget to look for discounted gift cards at marketplaces like Raise.com and Cardpool.com. Raise is even holding a Pre-Black Friday Sale Friday through Sunday — you can save up to 3 percent extra on certain retailers’ gift cards.
