This Wednesday, July 29, is a day to wing it – it’s National Chicken Wing Day.
Unofficial food holidays abound – chicken has National Fried Chicken Day (July 6) and Raising Cane’s National Chicken Finger Day (which was Monday, July 27) in the month of July alone. But National Chicken Wing Day has some official, historical basis.
Then-mayor of Buffalo, New York Stan Makowski in 1977 proclaimed July 29 as National Chicken Wing Day to celebrate that “thousands of pounds of chicken wings are consumed by Buffalonians in restaurants and taverns throughout the city each week.”
Across the U.S., restaurants joined in on National Chicken Wing Day celebrations and for good reason. Americans ordered 1.3 billion servings of wings from foodservice in the 12 months ending June 2026, which is up by 2.4% from the year before, according to research firm Circana CREST tracking data.
For National Chicken Wing Day, many wing-centric restaurants across the U.S. have specials. Remember, check social media accounts of your local restaurants for deals, too.
Buffalo Wild Wings’ National Chicken Wing Day Freebie
The big sports bar chain is giving away a free order of six wings (bone-in or boneless) with any $15 minimum purchase on Wednesday, July 29 (to get the deal use promo code FREEWINGS).
Buffalo Wild Wings has also just begun offering Poppin’ Ranch (99 cents per packet), a new “savory ranch popping candy that delivers a bright burst of ranch flavor with a crunchy, crackling twist,” according to a news release.
A new collection of limited-edition Buffalo Wild Wings launched on Monday, July 27. To shop, go through the Buffalo Wild Wings Rewards loyalty program.
Pizza Hut BOGO Deal for National Chicken Wing Day
When you buy one any-sized menu-priced order of boneless or traditional wings, you get another of equal or lesser value free on Wednesday, July 29. Use the code BOGOWINGS when ordering online or in the Pizza Hut app.
The offer is good at participating Pizza Hut locations, however, the availability of fried wings and flavors may vary. Also, there’s an extra charge for dipping sauce.
Wingstop Wing Week Deal and Prizes
The national wing eatery has a National Chicken Wing Day deal – you get five free wings with any qualifying purchase of $10 or more using the code FREEWINGS. Members of the Club Wingstop loyalty program can redeem that offer multiple times from Tuesday, July 28, to Thursday, July 30.
Wingstop is also expanding its National Chicken Wing Day celebration into an entire week, with chances to win daily prizes from Live Nation and Wingstop. You can enter through the Wingstop app and the Wingstop website. Here’s the prizes:
- Monday, July 27: Prizes include a $500 Ticketmaster gift card and Wingstop gift card.
