National Donut Day 2023 is the best day for biting into a free donut — or “doughnut,” as some spell it. However, did you know the day honors the heroes of World War I and not just the popular pastry?

Back in 1938, the day was originally created to remember the Salvation Army Lasses, who served donuts to soldiers on the front lines in WWI. Over the years, the day has turned into a celebration of the iconic (and very popular) treat — with many donut shops giving away free donuts on National Donut Day.

National Donut Day is the first Friday in June. This year, the sweet day is June 2.

All of the offers are valid at participating locations, while supplies last. Limit one per person. No purchase necessary, unless noted otherwise.

With so many local donut shops and bakeries everywhere around the country, check local shops for more possible freebies and deals on the sweet day.

These are the National Donut Day deals for 2023.

Duck Donuts

Customers will have something to quack about at Duck Donuts on National Donut Day. On June 2, everyone gets a free Cinnamon Sugar Donut — in-shop only.

The donut shop has more than 100 locations in 25 states across the U.S.

Dunkin’

Donut lovers can dunk a free Classic Donut at Dunkin’ with the purchase of any beverage on June 2. For locations nationwide, click here.

Krispy Kreme is celebrating National Donut Day with two sweet deals. On June 2, enjoy any donut of your choice for free, including its limited-time “Fan Favs.”

Enjoy a free Glazed Donut at LaMar’s Donuts & Coffee on National Donut Day, June 2.

The donut shop has locations in Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.
