Walmart Just Kicked Off Its First ‘Prime Day’ Sale

For the next three weeks, shoppers can save big at Walmart — but only if they belong to Walmart+.

The giant retailer just kicked off a sale that appears to be modeled after Amazon’s Prime Day.

However, in addition to being longer, the sale differs from Prime Day in another key way: You must sign up for Walmart+ — the retailer’s membership that costs $12.95 a month or $98 a year — in order to qualify for the sale prices.

During Amazon’s Prime Day, shoppers who sign up for a trial membership to Prime generally are eligible for the deals. Trial memberships will not qualify you for the Walmart deals, however.

The Walmart sale kicked off on Thursday. According to CNBC, the sale will feature “a rotating mix of items that are up to 40% off.” On Thursday, the deals include:

Walmart+ launched more than two years ago. Perks of membership include free shipping on online purchases with no minimum purchase, and free delivery of grocery orders of $35 or more. You also get fuel and prescription drug discounts.
